MUA Colour Blast Eyeshadow Tint - Review

This eyeshadow stick was bought on a whim but thought it looked very similar to the Clinique Chubby Sticks so I just knew I had to try it! On the website, the eyeshadow tints are described as 'Get a long-lasting tint of colour with this smooth cream eyeshadow. The easy-glide formula can be blended or worn alone for cool, block colour eyes. Encased in a handy chubby pencil the applicator rolls up for ease.'

Honestly, I have been looking for a perfect base for my eyeshadows and these work perfectly and help my eyeshadows stay put and not budge at all. It even lasts me a 7 hour shift at work! I bought the shade 'A Girl Like Me' (a dark gold/champagne colour) and when I swatched the tester in the store, it looked a lot more darker than what it does now but I have noticed that the top of the eyeshadow tint is a different colour to the rest of the tube so whether something has gone wrong in the factory I do not know but honestly, both of the colours are amazing and I feel as though I am getting 2 for the price of 1.

Sticking to the name of the product for one second, all of the eyeshadow tints in the range are named after Rihanna's songs: 'Diamonds', 'A Girl Like Me', 'Bring It Back', 'Loud', 'Unfaithful' and 'Stay'. I am a bit disappointed there are only 6 colours in the range though!

The consistency is very smooth but can be a little sticky when first applied but this feeling does go away after a few minutes. It is the perfect make up piece to have when you're in a hurry or just want something quick and look effortless. It is also easy to blend and ahh, I love it! What I like to do it apply this all over the lid and take my crease brush from Real Techniques and whatever colour has been on the brush the day before, use it in the crease and outer corners and my eyeshadow is done.

If worn on its own, it does have the tendency to crease after a few hours but I have not found any problems with creasing if an eyeshadow is applied over the top.

Overall, I really would recommend this product if you're looking for an everyday eyeshadow base or as an eyeshadow colour to add to your collection.

Available in Superdrug for £3! (Sold out as of 24/05/2015 on the MUA store)

MUA Limited Edition 5th Birthday Eyeshadow Palette - Review

I never actually planned on getting this palette but because I spent over £8 in Superdrug on MUA products, I got this free £4 eyeshadow palette and I'm really glad that I did!

I do believe that this is definitely one of the best palette's that MUA has graced us with and I'm very proud to say I've been buying their products now since they have been stocked in Superdrug. It comes with a mixture of matte and glittery shades that would look beautiful whether they were used as a day time or night time look.

The eyeshadows themselves are very pigmented and creamy, making them easy to blend and they all compliment each other very well. The first 5 colours in the palette are my absolute favourite and I believe they are very similar to those in the Urban Decay Naked 3 palette. The only downside that the black eyeshadow is not the best and it needs to be built up to get noticeable definition.

If you're planning on spending over £8 at Superdrug any time soon, I would highly recommend going as soon as possible so you're able to get your hands on the make up palette for absolutely free! Once they're gone, they're gone!

Common Skincare Mistakes

As much as I do love trying out new make up, my love really does lie with skin care and through-out my life I have made some absolutely horrendous mistakes which has caused dry skin, acne breakouts, scaring and sensitive skin. So I'm wanting to tell you some mistakes I made and hope that if you're doing the same, to please stop and save your beautiful skin!

1) Alcohol based cleansers - The bane of my life and what made my dry skin even worse. I was recommended by a skin care professional in Debenhams to go for a certain set of 3 steps that help get rid of acne so I was extremely happy when most have my acne had disappeared within a week but the dry patches started to become really red and angry and I was forced by a Doctor to stop using alcohol based toners/cleansers. However, in the certain '3 step system's' defence, they have now gone alcohol-free with their products, so good on you!

2) Over-exfoliating - As someone with dry skin, I used to do this to death and exfoliate every day, day and night but this removes the protective layer on your skin making you more prone to aging skin.

3) Not removing your make up - The classic and something that has happened with me many times. You think it's a good idea to just jump straight into bed and then you wake up in the morning and your skin feels like crap. As most of you will know, leaving on make up will clog your pores when your skin is trying to breathe and will more than likely cause a big spot (not good if you have an event the next day which has also happened to me too many times).

4) Not cleaning your brushes - Make up brushes need to be cleaned and whether that is using soap or a brush cleaner, it has to be done in order no dirt and grime goes in your pores.

5) Wearing your hair down for bed - This can cause a lot of oil build up where your hair is touching your face and due to the hair products, this can cause acne.

6) Using too many products - Applying too many products to the skin leads to a lot of build up and as a result, does not absorb into the skin so you get no benefits from the product and possibly a dry and acne prone face if use is regular. If there are multiple skin conditions then create a router in order to know what to use when, but don't apply together.

7) Using retinoid products during the day - Use them at night before bed as the sun can cause their properties to be useless and the whole idea of the product is again useless.

8) Products with a lot of chemicals - Don't use them! Please try not to! If there's something you like, maybe try and find a better alternative because at the end of the day, your skin will definitely not benefit from all of the chemicals.

9) Repeated use of the same make up - Make up essentially has a 'sell buy date' and using it past these dates can cause skin irritation or infection due to the spread of bacteria. After opening - eye products 3-6 months, make up sponges - 1 week (could lead to dermatitis otherwise), lip products - 1 year, powders - 2 years and foundations - 1 year.

Pineapple Expressed Bath Blaster - Bomb Cosmetics review

Bath Blasters from Bomb Cosmetics are essentially 'bath bombs' with aromatherapy and pure essential oils. Bath Blasters are a part of the 'fizzer' family.

Now, that little beauty of a bath bomb was a random purchase when I really fancied a 'tropical' bath and my word, did I get what I wanted! With the pure bergamot and grapefruit essential oils, pineapple, lemon, orange and vanilla, this really was like bathing in tropical flavoured cordial (squash).

As you can see, there are little pieces of gold star shaped glitter and it really is a nice hint of something special. However, if you're not a glitter lover, you can easily brush it away as they aren't very secure to the bath bomb. It also comes with a cute little orange segment which does not dissolve but I could not stop squishing it in the bath, my inner child loved it!

I sat for a while and watched 'She's All That' and when I felt my legs I had that 'ahhhhhh' moment when your skin is buttery smooth and I started to worship the ground this bath bomb walked on.. no need to moisturise after the bath.. BONUS. It became a beautiful yellowy/orange colour.. just divine! DOUBLE BONUS

What I also strangely liked was the taste.. I did not intend by any means to taste it but with all of the swishing about I like to do in the bath, I got some in my mouth and it was not bad at all! Obviously, I do not recommend drink this at all!

The best thing is, the bath did not stain bright yellow! I have had numerous amounts of bath products from other companies staining my bath but like I said this did not and washed away very well.

With this bath blaster, you could easily have 2 baths out of one bath bomb due to the high intensity and fragrance.

If you're looking for a bath blaster, I would highly recommend this one!

What you should take with you to university that you have never thought of!

I know this may seem a little early but trust me, preparation is key! I remember my friend ringing me going nuts because on A-Level results day, Argos had ran out of the shoe racks and storage boxes she wanted. It can be stressful, so prepare yourself now! I wanted to make the list of things you would know about and also some things that you may not even think of but it makes perfect sense to do so. Also, if worst comes to worst and you do not get into university (which you probably will) at least you have a lot of necessary items!

  • A bag - I'm not joking, so many of my friends forgot to buy a bag for university and had nothing to carry all of their stuff they had bought (which most of you honestly don't need). Make sure it is durable and wont drop to pieces, you will be carrying a lot of stuff from campus to campus.
  • Stationery - Pencil case, HP pencils, pens in different colours, markers, rubber, ruler and pencil sharper is all you will really need (unless you are doing a creative course in which you will have to change things accordingly)
  • Keys - You will not believe how many people I know who didn't have a key for their own home and who waited at university until their parents/flatmates got in.. get a key, it's a new lease of freedom! Also, if there is no one in the house it's a great place to revise!
  • Money - You never know when you're going to be caught short with money so make sure to keep an extra £5 in your bag or even behind your phone case. You may have forgot your bus pass, getting a sandwich and forgot your card.. this happens all of the time!
  • Phone case - Speaking of phone case.. get yourself one! It is an amazing place to store student cards and money if you ever want to go out without a bag or just hate using a purse like I do
  • Water bottle - Water is usually free on campus so fill it up instead of paying 80p from the vending machine or £3 on a coffee.. Possibly carry one of those mini squeezy bottle of Ribena?
  • Glasses - If you wear glasses, make sure you have a spare pair. They can easily break or you can misplace them and you're literally at university for no reason because you can't see.
  • Prescription - Don't forget it, especially if it's important. Keep a packet or a bottle in your bag, just incase you forgot to take it when you were supposed to or if you've ran out.
  • Memory pen - So many people forget their memory pen and end up not being able to save their work or continue with any work they had been doing.. If you know this is going to be a faff on with you forgetting it, you can always email yourself or use Google Drive.
  • Student Card - I forget to bring this to university almost every day but honestly, it's a staple. Without it you may not be able to borrow or return books (which you will get a fine), get into certain places or get student discount for any of those after lecture shopping trips!

So, you're worried about University?

I was in this position 1 year ago. I was so excited to go to University but so scared at the same time as I did not know anybody going to the same University or on the same course as me so this was extremely daunting. I did not know what to expect, whether I would like it, the work load.. anything! I have googled the top 5 fears of University and I am going to try to help you overcome those fears and what you can do in order to not feel this way!

Will I make any friends? Yes, yes you will! Before I even started University I had found people on my course through Facebook groups (I started with the Freshers page asking if anyone was studying my course and people commented in which I was then invited to the official Facebook page for my course). In Freshers, you normally have a scheduled timetable of events to go to. An example is that my friend Robyn (who I made firm friends with on Facebook and offered to drive her home during Freshers) also made friends with other people on the internet and we were all able to come together and I made firm friends with all of them! You can also use The Student Room to find people in your flat or course. As you change classes and see knew people, there will mostly be a time when you're still with someone you know so just ask if you can sit with them in the seminar, they are probably hoping the same thing! Then the people you sit next to will become your friends, even the people in your presentation groups who are all now really good friends of mine! Another idea is also join societies you are interested in. I did not actually join any as there wasn't a society for me but if there is one for you, join up and even get a friend to join you too (even if they're on another course) as you will make more and more friends as the weeks progress. If you are living away from home, leave your bedroom door open when moving in. Most people will come in and say hi and introduce themselves but even if nobody does, don't fret.. everyone will more than likely be in their communal living space or common room meeting other people so join in when you're ready! If people are greeting you then make sure that other people are okay too, if you see someone stressed or worried, offer them a smile and a cup of tea.. it's something they wont forget.

Missing Home? Don't worry about it just yet if it hasn't happened, you never know how you will feel when you get there. Just think of how exciting the prospect of university is! If you move away from home, this does usually happen at some stage though. Just make sure to keep in regular contact with people from home and bring things with you to remind you of your parents/friends/boyfriend/pets. Also take home comforts such as pictures, a throw, towels, chest of drawers.. anything that reminds you of home (as long as it fits of course!). Try not to miss it to much, try and concentrate on other things are you that are going on and if you do start to miss home and are able to, buy a train ticket home for a few weeks in advance to give you something to look forward too. If there is an upsetting day for you when you'd rather be home, be home for it, don't let yourself get too worked up or stressed as it can really drain and tire you out and will not only affect your work but your own being too.

Will I be able to afford everything? Thanks to student loans, most people are able to live off what they are given by the Government but unfortunately, the amount you're entitled to is based on the area in which you live and your parent's income. First off, work out a budget a week (a good indicator on this can be calculated online) and make sure you can afford everything, if not there will need to be some cut backs or you will need to get a part time job. If you already have a part time job before going to University but have your exams coming up, don't quit your job! Ask your bosses politely whether or not it would be okay to cut your hours all together or reduce them for 3 weeks leading up to your exams and during them and have your normal hours back afterwards. If this is not an option for you, ask for all of your hours to be fit into a couple of days of the week or ask people to swap shifts to cater to your revision. If you are moving away, make sure everything is working so you will not need to replace anything and make sure you take all of the necessities and not to forget anything. Take full advantage to student discounts though, they can make so much difference in the long run!

Can I handle the workload? For my course, I only attend university for 9 hours out of a week and I am asked to read 2 hours worth of reading a night which I do not do (woops) but honestly, you are not thrown in at the deep end and are eased into university work and the differences between college and university. The truth is, you're not going to be spoon fed at university like college. If you do not have a pen or paper, they are not going to give it to you.. be it an exam or a lecture, it is your responsibility. If you are juggling a lot of different things, make yourself a timetable. My course, thankfully, is not very weighty on the workload and most of the time we do not need to do anything for seminars but what is slightly stressful is the revision or other assignments. Exams at University can also be a bit more formal than at college, just depends on what your lecturer is like! If you're reading this now and are planning on applying for University, research the University exam time table for your chosen course. My assignments were thankfully spread out over the year and I only had 2 exams. I also only had 2 presentations, 1 NVivo assessment and 7 essays. My friend at a different university has 6 exams in the space of 10 days though!

Is this course/university the right thing for me? I can not tell you that I am afraid but for me, I do not think it was the right decision for myself. The course is not what I expected but I love my University. If you are having second thoughts, contact UCAS as they will be able to help you by putting you through Clearing for a different course or you may be able to contact the University direct and get things changed that way. If you have started the course and dislike it, you can also easily change. During the first year, your assessment marks do not count to your degree so you are able to move course and university after your first year and you also may not have to do your first year again.. there are always different paths you can take so don't fear!

Mini Review - L'Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte 24 Hour Foundation

As someone with fair and dry skin, I always seem to have a constant challenge to find a matte foundation right for me for those times when it is humid and I just want a little shine to my skin, not for my face to look wet (as some dewy foundations can in the summer). I have seen a lot of people rave about this product and as this is my first review I really don't want to say anything negative but I hated it.

The product, when applied, looked very cakey on my skin and even though I am the palest shade (Porcelain), it still seemed to leave a little bit of an orange undertone to my skin which my boyfriend commented on and normally, he never notices if anything else is wrong with my make up, so I knew this was a big downfall for the foundation. It claims to have a 'no mask effect' but I'm really not so sure, I felt as though I did have product on my face.

When someone says they have 'dry skin' I sometimes get very envious when they have the smallest of dry patches as I have seriously dry skin, what no amount of moisturising or exfoliation can get rid of. I am dry all over my body, not just my face. After reading reviews, I found this not to stick to dry patches but if you would consider yourself to have drier patches than the 'average', I really would stay clear.

Also, as I am nearly 20, I was expecting to be coming to the end of my acne breakouts due to hormones. My skin was clear from a single blemish for around 3 months and as soon as I used this product I have blemishes around my chin, mouth and side of my cheeks. My cheek blemishes are still as stubborn as they were when they first arrived which was about 2 weeks ago and normally it leads to scaring in this area on me so I'm really hoping this product hasn't caused this.

When the blemishes started to occur, I tried to cover them with this foundation and after 4 hours my face was getting really hot and my blemishes started to throb. When I looked in the mirror my face wasn't red (I thought I may have been having an allergic reaction or had a sunburn) but you could visibly see where the foundation was sitting on my acne breakout and it wasn't attractive. Once I had rinsed my face in a public bathroom, my face instantly started feeling better.. quite scary how a foundation, potentially, can cause something like that!

I really wanted to like this product but honestly, it has made the aftermath of the application really itchy and aggravating for me. I have never actually used a L'Oreal foundation before this but have used their eyeshadows, lipsticks and blushes so I don't think I am allergic to their products but it may be this product my skin doesn't like.

However, I have read good reviews on this foundation so if you don't have any skin problems, I would definitely check out these reviews.

If you have sensitive, spot prone or super dry skin, I would ask for a tester or test this on yourself in a store before purchasing.
